First of the month
While doing some tidying and sorting today, I stumbled across a box full of letters from 20 years ago. Well, slightly less than 20 years, but a long, long time ago when I was a student. There were letters from friends, boyfriends and boys that were friends who I had hoped would become boyfriends but who clearly knew better. Some of these people I am still in regular contact with, but some I have absolutely no recollection of, which is slightly alarming.
Some of them I do remember but have lost touch with. Reading through their crazy letters tempts me to search for them online and send off an email to see how they’re doing. That’s how nostalgia affects me. I’m not sure whether I get like this because of occupational hazard (lots of looking back in my job) or parentage (Irish mother, seafaring father - see what I mean?), but I do know that it’s best not to give in to these urges.
But reflecting on the past is not a bad thing at all, in my opinion, and I could probably do with a bit more of it here at P’Soup. Who knows, I might even start learning from my mistakes. So I have decided to pay more attention to the changes in the garden over time and the cycles of the seasons as they happen. To do this I intend to take two photos on the first of each month and see what happens. Starting today.
The first photo is from the house looking into the potager.
The second picture is taken facing the house from the potager:
I’ve put the pictures onto my Flickr pages so if you click on either of them you will be taken to annoted versions letting you know just what I’m growing where. Happy clicking.

Oh you’re garden is lovely, I’d love to have something like this outside my back door so I could potter easily. Do you have a patio or somewhere to eat outside?
Very impressed that you’ve got a Flikr page and have notes on your photos. Why are your courgettes protected - slugs? Good idea about filling up the space with salad until needed, I’m going to nick that one!

Thats so cool - do you share the strawberries with your neighbor?

Wow, that looks great! I’ve got a series of similar photos, but I’ve not been very organised about when I take them. It tends to be a bit random. But it’s been really good to see the changes.

The Flickr photo + notes is a very interesting idea. Good as a reminder.
Everything is looking great - and only a step from the back door - so handy!

Very shipshape and tidy-looking. Must be the seafaring father gene…

They look lovely. And I thoroughly enjoyed the lead-in; I get similar urges myself. Nice post.

I ought to do that with my garden. It would be fun to see at a glance how it grows throughout the year. Your garden looks lovely.

Hi Clare, I think reflection is a great way to see how far we’ve come and where we want to go next.~~Dee
