The birds and the beans
Last week I was delighted to see that my broad beans had germinated. When I sowed them I had cleverly protected them against the onslaught of the local mouse and squirrel populations by laying wire mesh over the area. As they started to poke through the soil I lifted the mesh.
And now the bastard pigeons have pulled up half my seedlings.

Figures. They did exactly the same to my peas this year. Turn your back for half a second and they’re scoffing the lot. I fear it’s netting time.

Well, first I’m going tohave to sow some more. Then I think I’ll get some chicken wire to put over the tops of the beds. If that all fails then I’ll come after ‘em with the Tom Lehrer!
