The garlic wait is over…
At last! I have been green with envy reading about others planting out their garlic, knowing that mine must surely be about to arrive, and today it finally made it to our doorstep.

I spent an hour this afternoon sneakily avoiding work so I could split and plant the cloves. I have planted 88 cloves in total and saved a further eight to give to a friend. There are four varieties: Purple Wight, Spanish Roja, German Red and Solent Wight. I don’t really care what they’re called. I just want to have my own home-grown garlic again.
The next item to wait for? Raspberry canes.

Hurrah! I was talking to a bloke on the allotment about all the broad beans I had planted, and saying I’d probably dig most of them back in because I could never get the family to eat so many. He said that in a tapas bar in Spain he had had a kind of pate made from broad beans with lots of garlic and olive oil - sounded a bit like hummus - served on slices of French bread. I’m going to be up to my neck in broad beans and garlic by next spring, so I’ll definitely be trying this recipe.

Hi!
It sounds as if we have the same garlic supplier as I have received exactly the same variety this weekend! Their bed wasn’t quite ready yet but they are going in next weekend.
It’s going to be a long few months before srping!

Mel - Yes, I read about broad bean pate in one of Bob Flowerdew’s books and though it sounded good. This recipe (http://www.vegsoc.org/cordonvert/recipes/broadrec3.html) from the vegetarian society seems nice and simple. Can’t wait!
Pepette - Garlic sisters are we! Spring is a long way off. But one good thing about very cold weather when (if) it comes is knowing that the garlic needs it if it’s going to clove up. It’s not much consolation, but it’s all I’ve got!

Ahh, thanks for the reminder. I really have to get mine in too! Good thing we’re having some nice weather here in Montreal.
