Pumpkin Soup

a weblog with an allotment attached

18 October 2007

It’s getting crowded around here!

At this time of year, right up until Hallowe’en, P’Soup experiences a dramatic surge in visitors - about 5 times as many per day as usual at present and still climbing. If you are one of the many seasonal visitors than do please take a good look around and remember to say ‘hi’ before you leave - it’s always good to know where people are from, how they’ve got here and what they’re interested in.

The downside to all this activity is that the search strings that bring people here all become very predictable as pretty much everyone is here for one reason: “pumpkin soup”, “fresh pumpkin soup”, “allotment pumpkin soup”, “pumpkin soup spell” and every misspelling of the words pumpkin and soup that you can imagine. There is a surge in “buried conkers” visitors, it is true, but I miss the jolly old days of folk looking for “nuns in stockings”, “charlie dimmock breasts” and - my personal favourite of all time - “pornographic pumpkins”.

Shove up everybody, make room for the pumpkin pervs. After all, it’s important to be welcoming.

I laughed at this. It pains me to see the searches that bring people to my own site. Top of the list? “Salted gherkins”. Since I did a post on this, I now have every east European in Britain coming to find out how to make them. It remains overwhelmingly the most popular route to my blog.
Which is, I suppose, flattering. But, er, unexpected.

Yeah, I get a lot of ‘how to get life on mars’. The one that made me laugh the most and pity the poor person who found me that way was ‘little girl haircuts’. One thing I do not have is a little girl’s haircut! Short back and sides, maybe… :-)

Since I wrote this post I have had a visitor who searched for “Butt cheeks pumpkin”. I kid you not.

I might use it in future as my user ID.

Hi Andy. Erm, there are a whole load of relevant recipes listed here: http://allotment.humanlint.com/psoup-recipes/
Perhaps you don’t think they’re easy enough to find - we’ll have to rectify that.

Sorry, I am another pumpkin soup searcher. Will definitely be trying one of the recipes.
Also interested to read about the garlic, I have just had mine delivered, didn’t know I needed to split the cloves, so have learnt something already. Thanks.

Louise - No need to apologise - the more the merrier! I’m glad to have been helpful with the garlic information and I do hope you enjoy your soup.
