31 March 2007
Such a hard life.
We’re back from a long day at the plot, feeling tired and happy. I can tell you briefly that today we have
- dug over innumerable beds
- weeded the onions and garlic
- planted out lettuce seedlings
- transplanted pot-sown broad beans
- pulled up all remaining leeks and donated LOADS to other allotment holders, thereby appeasing the allotment gods who will now reward us by ensuring that plagues of slugs and bindweed will no longer afflict our plot
- sowed another bed full of broad beans in place of the leeks
- planted three beds full of potatoes
- told Ben that I am stepping down as association chair(man/person)
All in all, a good day’s work. Now we have to get clean, sip a glass of champagne each and go out for dinner.
How ever will we cope?

The allotment gods care not one jot about who eats our leeks. They ignore prayers, libations and sacrifices of all kinds. They are fickle and prone to whim. Saintly or sinning, it matters not.
So eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we will nurse hangovers.
Happy anniversary babe! Here’s to 13 more years!
