Turn up the heat!
The snow shows no sign of stopping here - the sky is full of it. The roads are slow and getting worse and people’s tempers are fraying. I just heard a woman who had been driving down our street leap out of her car (once she’d swerved to a stop) and scream at a group of kids who were throwing snowballs at each other. Each other - not her. Seems to me that she could do with some snowballing herself to let off a bit of steam.
The snow is a mixed blessing as far as I’m concerned. This weekend is earmarked for music-ing so there would be no time for any allotment duties. If the weather were balmy I’d feel guilty about what I wasn’t doing down there - while still enjoying myself with my musical buddies, of course. But my musician friends have to travel to get here. Phil Clarinet will probably make it no problem from Nottingham. But Richard Bassoon is coming from Wales so I’m concerned that he won’t make it through and we’ll be oon-less without him.
If he does make it through, we’ll be a quartet this weekend, not a quintet as we’re rehearsing some music for when Daniel French Horn gets married in August. If I find out he only agreed to the quintet reunion so he could get some free music at his wedding I shall be pretty miffed. On the other hand, if we get some free champagne and a jolly to Oxford out of it, I might let him off.
It’s just as well Dan won’t be with us. The last time we were all together and it snowed (Dec 1990!) he encouraged us to walk outside in the snow in bare feet. That was back when he was sensible and he’s pretty wild now, so perhaps he wouldn’t be satisfied if only our feet were naked these days.
The forecast tomorrow is much warmer so although everything is blanketed at the moment it could all be gone very soon. Not before we’ve had a damn good snowball fight ourselves, I hope. Even if it does mean risking the ire of the neighbours.

That is one heck of a photo! I do hope that everyone gets here or, failing that, everyone stays safe at home. Though we do have an awful lot of food to eat…
It still amazes me that we’re never prepared for snow. The roads get covered and people get stuck every time. Ridiculous.

Why thank you! I’m rather pleased with it myself. It’s amazing what you can do when you stick the camera into automatic mode.

Whereas the last time that snow fell where I live (in Hong Kong) was about 15 million years ago, so our home allotment is looking comparitively good.
Mrs Grumpy next door to where I live has never thrown a snowball in her life so has no idea what you’re talking about.
Your dad says that one day he will get around to developing the family plot here in Basingstoke (but I don’t believe him!) Anyway, the ground is too cold right now. Maybe he can grow frozen peas!!
MIchael.

Hi Mike!
Sorry we won’t get to see you - Dad and I had a mix-up about dates. Enjoy the cold weather while you’re here, won’t you. PLenty of excuses to stay in and drink beer!
