Pumpkin Soup

a weblog with an allotment attached

Now and then

It has been suggested by Mr Dirty Burro that it would be good to see how the P’Soup patch is looking at the moment. It’s true that I have been avoiding posting any pictures of the plot because I am just a little ashamed of how weedy and messy it looks. But I had also been planning to have something of a retrospective so I can get a warm, rosy glow from realising just how much hard graft we have done in the two years we’ve had the plot - even if it is still a horticultural chaos rather than the beautiful oasis of orderly calm that I dream of.

Recently, while clearing things out in preparation for the GBBP (Have I mentioned the GBBP before?) I found a blurry polaroid of the plot, just after we had taken it on, around about this time two years ago, and had cut down the head high weeds:

Here’s how it looks today, from about the same spot:

I’ve put both photos onto Flickr (just click on the pic) with notes so anyone who’s interested can see what we’ve got where (other than weeds). It’s still very much a work in progress but it’s great to see that we are gradually making a difference.

By the time of my next big birthday it will either be fab, or have killed us.

Wow! What a difference! You and Owen (and all you mates) should be very proud of yourselves. How old are your asparagus plants & have you eaten off them yet?

Asparagus went in this year - weren’t you paying attention? http://allotment.humanlint.com.....-business/

So, nothing from it this year, not next and only a small amount the year after that. What can I say? We’re in for the long haul!
