New year, new soup
Pictures have been in very short supply here at P’soup, haven’t they? There was a flurry of photographic activity around August when I was able to borrow my Dad’s camera, but since then it’s all been rather, erm, textual, hasn’t it? But all that is about to change.
Those of you in the know will be aware that as I was such a good girl last year, Santa brought me a digital camera for Christmas, so now your favourite allotment blog (well, my favourite allotment blog - I’d better not get above my station, had I?) can be enjoyed with pics.
I do hope this won’t turn out to be a massive disappointment for you!
This is all part of a brief period of taking stock and preparing myself for the new season. Not a resolution exactly as I don’t really do that - I’m more of a ‘change things when they need changing’ sort of person. And sometimes a ‘put off ’til tomorrow’ kind of person.
Which is what had happened with my worms. I’d been meaning to give the different layers a good old sort through - take out the compost, stir up what remains, get some air in and so on. But it got left. And left. And left a little bit longer. Sure, they got fed. And I suspect the extraeneous matter in the wormery helped to provide some much-needed insulation agianst the fearsome frosts we’ve had. But it can hardly be said that they had the care and attention that they deserved, considering the job they’re doing.
Until yesterday.

They’ve been moved to a new location away from the bathroom wall (which is going to have a lot of work done on it this year, fingers crossed) to a site where the legs do not buckle. I removed a huge sack of the most glorious worm compost and have aerated what remains, while adding a bit more shredded card as it was starting to get just a tad too moist. I think they look happy and active, and I certainly feel much better for having got that one task out of the way!

I also allowed myself to order seeds yesterday, after which I sorted through and catalogued (no, I can’t believe it either) the seeds I already have. Foolish, foolish me. You wouldn’t think that a great deal of sense would be required to do the sorting first and the ordering second, would you?
Perhaps I should resolve to… No, wait, you won’t catch me out that easily!

Those photos are excellent. Even if they are of worms and our leftovers… I hope you thanked Santa for the camera. It’s going to make Pumpkin Soup a much more colourful place. Yay!

I think that Santa has been thanked pretty well. But he can also have a hug if he doesn’t get home from work too late!

Get a room!

Bah! Still no worms over at WB Paddocks - I hope, when they arrive, they are as happy as yours seems, but for now we are on high worm alert with paper, card and kitchen waste at the ready

My! Won’t your worms be well-fed when they arrive? Remember they are slower in the colder weather (eat MUCH more in the summer!).
How many are you starting with? And where are you getting them from? Are they likely to arrive next week?
I’m very excited for you. There’s nothing quite like getting worms through the post!

They’ve arrived! More soon (post-kitchen hunt and pre-builders starting work). Watch the skies!
