It takes courage and stamina to think about frozen dessert on a day like today

It’s the most amazing day here today. Blinding sunshine, still air and freezing cold beyond belief. Well, OK, it’s not actually that cold according to the thermometer (about 7 degrees), but it feels like death. And the garden has the thickest layer of frost I have ever seen. During a break from cleaning I went out there and I have to tell you, walking on the grass was bit like biting through the chocolate on a White Magnum. But without the joy of eating white chocolate and ice cream. Obviously. [And yes, I do know I shouldn't walk on the grass while it's frozen, but it's fun!]

I had wanted to say that walking on the grass was a bit like breaking through a topping of Ice Magic - that truly hideous “dessert topping” that I desperately wanted my mother to buy when I was a kid. But I couldn’t find any links to it. What happened to nostalgia for junk food of the ‘eighties?

In the interludes between housework and fantasising about mid-morning pudding options, Owen and I have been enjoying watching the birds in the garden. This is still something of a novelty for us as after the Kings Heath tornado there were no small birds round here for some weeks. Those weeks coincided with me having bought feeder, seed and fat balls so it was pretty annoying. Gradually they have started to venture back into the area and have begun to visit us. Today we have seen blue tits, great tits, cheeky sparrows and robins. Result!

[A post that mentions the words "ice cream" and "tits"? At this rate you may have some competition in the rude visitor disappointment stakes, Mr Head Burro!]

The weather may be cold, but I think I’m thawing inside.

Hi mate - glad to hear you’re feeling better. Sometimes it just needs a little cheeky sparrow to put a big mile on your face :-D

I’m hoping to get out in the garden today, but I think I’ll put diging off and just stick to general tidying. But before I do I’m going to put some bread on for the leek & potato soup - I want something warm if I’m going out in this weather!

    p.s. Porno Pumkins!

A great blog, really refreshing to read. I am reading all through your logs to find out how big your plot is, and how you are getting on.

Hope that you kicked the cold

I think you must have too much time on your hands.

Which is better than ice magic on your extremities or space dust in your orifices. Ouch.

Oh I dunno - I’d give anything a try twice.
