Edging my beds
A much-needed visit to the vast open-ness of our allotment today saw us both grit our teeth and work damn hard I can tell you.
Owen has been cutting back the unruly green manure again, while I cut back the jostaberry (hard!), dug up some more potatoes, and put some edging around what will become a raspberry bed.
I have spent quite a lot of time thinking (hard!) about how to best make use of the space in a way which will fit with what we’ve done so far and will also be relatively low maintenance. Some permanent fruit beds are part of that plan.
As usual, there’s still loads to do, and even with this reasonable and unambitious plan it’s likely (knowing me) that I am still attempting to do too much at once. But that’s me. And that’s how I get anything done at all, so I suppose it’s not completely ineffective.
Besides, my younger brother (a strapping lad) is coming tomorrow and in exchange for a few beers I shall have him digging up a storm. To misquote Karl Howman in those annoying adverts; Let little brother do the hard work, so you don’t have to!
