Too excited to sleep

No, I’m not worked up over the new Harry Potter. Nor is it that I have vouchers for fabulous new shoes. And though I’m thrilled that Eugene has discovered the mole in the Big Brother House, it would be a pretty poor show if that was keeping me awake. It’s not even because I’m looking forward to my birthday.

It’s just that I’ve had such a fabulous day today.

I was at a training event during the day that was brilliant, inspiring and motivating. But that’s work and not really what I want to enthuse about here.

Afterwards I went with a friend to view a property that she’s hoping to buy. All the excitement of noseying round someone else’s home (and a very nice home it was too) without the stress and worry of wanting to buy it myself. That was fun, but aside from supporting her as she puts in an offer and hoping that it all goes smoothly, I’ve hardly got a big emotional investment in it, have I?

Once home I spent hours in the garden planning and pinching and pruning and pootling. My cool bed is really starting to take shape. Best of all, after some unplanned labourer absence, work has started on the wall that will protect our lawn from dog poo. I’m feeling very excited that the garden is going to look just amazing in another year or two when the plants are properly established.

And that’s why I can’t sleep.

My mind is full of pictures of what the garden will look like when I’ve done the rest of the work on it: planting up the hot bed; paving the far corner to put a seat in; adding a small pond; clearing out the path down the side of the house and putting some large planters in… It’s too exciting.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the allotment, plans are very much afoot there too, but more of that another time.

In the meantime I think it’s going to look nice enough for my birthday celebrations next weekend - assuming the weather means it is possible to spend time outdoors, which currnetly doesn’t look promising according to the forecast.
