Antipodean soup hunters

When I look at the referral stats for Pumpkin Soup over the last couple of months there is a very striking phenomenon. A large proportion of visitors have got here searching for ‘pumpkin’ and ’soup’ and ‘recipe’ via google.com.au or google.co.nz. It turns out that a lot of visitors from all over the world who don’t come via links on other blogs are looking for information about how to cook up something warm and tasty. But it is particularly noticeable how many of these are using those two search engines. Intriguing.

I’m curious about why so many folk down under want to find out how to make pumpkin soup (aside from the fact that it’s delicious, naturally). Or maybe they don’t. Perhaps it’s just the same two or three people who like my humble site who haven’t yet bookmarked it and can’t remember the URL. And it’s quite possible that they’re not in Australia or New Zealand at all, andjust like using those versions of Google while they sit at computers in sunny Croydon. But of course that’s not nearly as exciting a thought as the picture I have in my mind of hoards of people the other side of the world finding their way to my little bit of the web.

Even if they don’t really want to be here.

I’d be very interested to hear from anyone who’s stumbled here looking for something completely different, even if it’s only to hear that you’re disappointed not to find what you’ve been looking for. But if you can give me any information on what is becoming in my mind an antipodean obsession with pumpkin potage then all the better. Go on, leave a comment or use the contact page, tell me why you’re here. You have no idea how much I would enjoy hearing from you.

    Hi there,
yes, it is amazing how people get to your site isn’t it? I find myself wondering about the same thing sometimes on my blog.

Anyway, I think I found you through a link on a garden blog, but don’t recall which one. You’re currently parked in my Favourites/new blogs to explore.

Now since I’ve explored a bit, I guess I’ll have to re-file you … hmmm, to blogroll or not, that is the question.

    Nice site.

I found you via Bean’s blog which in turn I found on Fluffius Muppetus - afraid I don’t remember how I came across that one though - really enjoyed reading your blog and I will return - you are now in my favourites.

p.s. although I love the idea of Pumpkin soup and indeed Sweetcorn soup too, unfortunately my stomach begs to differ :)

Pumpkin Soup is a *staple* in Aussie/NZ cuisine, which I think would account for how many find your site when they search for those terms.

I make pumpkin soup regularly (I’m from Australia), but never the same way twice. However, my recipe for “Seven Mules Soup” (a pumpkin soup variation I made for US friends) is a popular one on my blog too: see http://sandgroper14.wordpress......ules-soup/

    Enjoy!
