Did you miss me?
Normal service (such as it is) is resumed.
Bank holiday weekends are brilliant, aren’t they? We’ve been having loads of fun getting up to all sorts of enjoyable things:
Continuing Owen’s birthday celebrations we went to see this with two similarly sci-fi-fantasy nut friends. It could only ever be a bit of an anti-climax given the significance we attached to Vader when we were impressionable five-, six- and seven-year-olds, but it was an enjoyable romp. Not sure why the light sabres have suddenly developed pointy ends, though.
After the film, we went for an amazing meal at San Carlo where I bored everyone to tears lauding the taglionini lobster I had which was possibly one of the very best things I have ever eaten in my life.
Yesterday we did housey stuff - recycling, grocery shopping, tidying up, laundry. Probably the least fun of the weekend so far. Excepting stripping paint off the window frames in the office which is truly as dull an activity as you can get. It’s even worse than this.
In the late afternoon we got ourselves down to the allotment and did a couple of hours’ work. I forgot to take the hoe down (yeeha!) with us and so had to weed by hand. This is not too much of a problem as it does mean I can sit down on the job, but it does terrible things to the skin on my hands. I think I shall have to make more like the lovely Rachel de Thame and get some latex gloves for this kind of thing.
I also spent what felt like forever earthing up all the spuds (I think we may have over-estimated how many we need. I’m Irish - perhaps it’s in the blood.), while Owen trimmed and strimmed and was generally ordered around.
Now all we need today is for the sun to shine a little more brightly and maybe, just maybe, our barbecue-mad mates will invite is over for cocktails and kebabs. Fantastic.
