The finely-seived art of compost making
I had two assistants yesterday - how fabulous. But today it’s too showery to trim more green manure so we’re staying inside, being quiet and experiencing the slight tinge of alcohol-in-the-blood shame that comes from staying up very late, talking earnestly about nothing very important and consuming too much beer or wine.
Before the thunder and rains I did make a start at riddling through one of my compost bins, artfully avoiding the enormous spider (I’ve now named her Etta) living in the lid stocking her burgeoning larder. What gorgeous stuff this compost is. Dark, crumbly, full of horticultural promise and what’s more, I made it!
Should I really be so proud of a talent for making things rot?

After being a bit overwhelmed by stuff, reading your blog has reignited my allotment tendencies and I’ve been thinning the savoy cabbage seedlings all afternoon. Tomorrow I shall approach my plot after a neglected 3 weeks and go to war with the hoe. So cheers for chivvying me up again.
I’ll be popping in for soup on a regular basis.

Glad to hear that our site has encouraged you back to garden implement warfare. I had a bit of a crisis of motivation recently and have found others’ blogs and comments very helpful, so it’s great to know that someone can get something similar here.
Please do keep coming back - there’s always plenty of soup in the pot.
