a weblog with an allotment attached

Autobiography

It’s an utterly gorgeous day today so I’ve been outside in the garden dutifully watering things and we intend to visit the allotment a bit later on when it’s not quite so hot. So all is well with the world?

Well, not quite. My wormery is looking decidedly unhealthy and I’m not sure why. I’ve also managed to finish off one of my tomato plants because the water pressure was too strong and it broke the stem. I need to pull my finger out and put in some real work down at the plot but I feel a bit overwhelmed by what there is to do (the masses of green manure that is steadily reaching for the sky is not really helping matters much). Perhaps it would be easier to forget we ever got an allotment and just sip beer in the garden all summer instead.

Big plans, little time. Story of my life.

Well, I’m all for sipping beer in the garden, but there’s no reason to be so disheartened. It certainly does look overwhelming down at the allotment and cutting through all that green manure by hand is time-consuming and bloody hard work! But we’ve just got to keep at it. I’m sure the fruits (and veg) of our labours - even if they’re just two onions, six potatoes and a handful of beans - will be worth it. Let’s make sure it never becomes a burden. As long as we keep enjoying it, we can make the most of it!

Keep looking at what you’ve done, not what you’ve got left to do, that’s what I keep telling myself anyway!

I also make sure I do at least 1 job that I can see the difference after it’s done, that way I feel like I’ve made some progress!

My wormery has serious issues as well, and I can’t seem to sort it out no matter what I try. I’m doing better than my Mother though who managed to kill her worms on 2 seperate occasions!

If you want to relax, relax, there will be times when all you want to do is be down the plot so go then, there’s no point in going and resenting it, it’s hardly relaxing if you feel that way!

    Take care

Thanks for the encouragement Anna, I very much appreciate it.

I think my worms may be heading the same way as your mother’s…
