Aaaah, comfrey
More peppermint seed in the post today to put in my lovely galvanised trough so I can have homegrown peppermint tea (I drink gallons of it…). I also received a new squash to try (going squash crazy this year as a way of ‘dealing with’ - ahem - parts of the plot that we are unable to clear) and some comfrey.
Not sure when I’m going to find the time to make use of any of this stuff as my Italian exams start on Saturday. I wonder if talking to my plants in Italian is any use to them when they’re used to English with the last traces of a Yorkshire accent?

How about speaking italian to basil and tomatoes and saving the yorkshire accent for turnip, swede and certain types of rose? Something about Multi-lingual plant care? could be a winner. Although tomatoes aren’t native to italy, so maybe that wouldn’t work. Hell, what do I know?

How are you planting the squash? I have half an uncleared plot and seedlings for 2 types of squash and pumpkins coming up, so I’d like to get them in with minimum digging and then work around them to form the beds if that makes sense!
Thanks!

Al - something like this perhaps: “Che bellissimi pomodori!” & “By ‘eck what gorgeous white roses you are.” That could work. The neighbours are likely to think I’m bonkers, but that’s nothing new.
Anna - I’m planning on doing what someone on A4A has mentioned recently. Dig a small hole into which the sqaush seedling will go (growing nicely in paper pots). Then as the plant spreads, put cardboard underneath the stems and leaves which should clear what’s underneath. That’s the plan. No idea if it will work, but I’m game!

Growing mint from seed sounds like fun, but given that the catalogue says that the seeds germinate easily and the plants spready prolifically, what on earth would anyone do with the 1150 seeds in the packet?

Muppet - it’s ideal for folk like me who have particular skill when it comes to killing things!
