Dos and Don’ts part II

Do remember that the correct place for all your miniature spirit bottles, yoghurt pots, crisp packets and used condoms is the communal compost pile. Veteran and newbie allotmenteers alike can have hours of fun pulling out your refuse as they pile spadefulls into their barrows. Think of it as an eclectic and unconventional bran tub or an exciting form of modern archaeology. You may hear them curse, but swearing is the traditional response when discovering wrappers of long-forgotten chocolate bars while preparing to mulch - it’s all part of the fun.

Don’t forget the importance of reusing and recycling. When you’ve finished excavating your refuse, please remember to re-bury what you’ve removed and be sure to add something of your own as a sort of time capsule for allotmenteers of the future. Trust me. They will thank you for it.
