Ouch!
I’m going to have to take it a bit slower today as I’m feeling pretty achey and walking like John Wayne.
It’s not a good look for me.

I’m back home for a spot of lunch before heading back to carry on. It’s such a beautiful day. The sun’s shining warm and bright, the sky is a gorgeous shade of blue and the fluffy white clouds are being blown oh-so-sedately by the breeze. Perfect drying weather.
Which is great for the [...]

Ooooh! I’ve been productive around the house already today, and now the sun’s coming out, the weather’s fine and I’m off down the allotment to measure out some more beds and continue laying sheet mulching. Does it get any better than this?

23 March 2005
Just walked in the door, having spent the afternoon down at the plot, preparing two beds using the sheet mulching method. So, no digging, but still plenty of fork action. Chicken poo and newspapers I have, but I also had to make several trips to the communal pile of leaves, grass clippings and [...]

I’m allowing myself a gentle day as some work I did yesterday left me feeling pretty bruised emotionally and I feel like saying a big ‘fuck you!’ to the world.
So, as I take it easy in preparation for an afternoon’s frenzied (well, OK, not ‘frenzied’ as much as ‘light’ - let’s be realistic) digging, I’ve [...]

I woke up this morning at 6am to the sound of rain drumming loudly on the roof (our room is currently in the loft). Very heavy rain.
So much for continuing work down the lottie today.

Squash: Golden Apple; Jack be little (OK, actually a pumpkin. Whatever.).

Well, spent an enjoyable if frustratingly slow-going hour and a half or so down the allotment. The ground is so heavy. After we’ve finished the three beds marked out that remain to be worked on, I’m thinking that I will try lasagne planting on the rest of the ground that we will use [...]

Term has ended so I’m off work now for three whole weeks which means that I can spend a bit of time almost every day doing some work down the allotment. Owen and I were down there yesterday, but the soil we were digging over was particularly heavy and I couldn’t manage it for [...]

In a bid to make life easier for myself next year and in order to learn from my mistakes, I have decided to create a new category which will simply list what I’ve sown where and when. This is going to make for pretty dull reading on the main site. Tough.
Indoors:
Courgette: Striato d’Italia; [...]

I know what you’re thinking.
Well, obviously, I don’t actually know what you’re thinking. I do not have electronic mind-reading abilities, that would be a bit spooky. I am not Derren Brown (and he really is a bit spooky). But I suspect that those of you who are regular visitors (that would be [...]

And what about ‘disingenuous’? Fan-bloody-tastic.

Or ‘diarrhoea’.
But only because I like the spelling.

And let’s not forget ‘temerity’.

I have been criticised at times in the past for using ‘big words’. Usually the criticism comes from people who have only recently met me and who have got me into a heated discussion about something, perhaps having consumed some alcohol. The snide comments I’ve received have only ever come from people who [...]

Well, the weather wasn’t nearly as mean and inhospitable as predicted so we did sneak down to the allotment and did some digging yesterday. But being virtuous types, we did also do some work on the house and even found some time to buy a fireplace for the room we’re working on. Productive [...]

Having just checked the weather forecast for our part of the world over the next few days I can say with a fair degree of certainty that there won’t be much going on down at the allotment this weekend.
It looks like we can expect spells of ‘By ‘eck it’s nippy!’ followed by periods of [...]

A bit of an up and down day at work today, currently ending on the down.
I’m very lucky in that I really enjoy my work. Except for the paperwork and admin bits. Ooooh, and the very difficult, stressful bits. And let’s not forget the politics of working in a large organisation bits.
I [...]

I can barely contain myself. Last week I ordered myself a wormery from Wiggly Wigglers and today it has arrived! I’ve just tipped my bag of worms out onto a lovely moist coir bedding and I’m waiting for them to bury themselves. Actually, if I’m honest, that part was a bit gross.
I imagine [...]
